The carriages of Germany's first train (1835)

The carriages of Germany's first train were built in wood, in workshops in Nuremberg: the locomotive had to be imported, but the coaches were made by the city itself. On 7 December 1835, nine carriages carried two hundred invited guests to Fürth, astonished at a speed whose dangers the doctors of the day warned against. One of the carriages from that first line, number 8, still exists: it is the oldest railway vehicle preserved in Germany.
Más detalles sobre la maqueta

Discover a railway modelling jewel with our kit models, which will allow you to enjoy pleasurable moments and relive the age in which the countries thronged with coaches such as these.

This locomotive, which was manufactured by Robert Stephenson & Co. of Newcastle, was shipped in pieces from Newcastle to the Port of Rotterdam, from there it was transported up the Rhine to Cologne, and from Cologne, with a great deal of difficulty, it had then to be transported overland to Nuremberg. When it finally reached its destination it was put back together at the workshops of Johann Wilhelm Spaeth.

The coaches were built in wood by local workshops.

On 7th December 1835 it completed its maiden journey from Furth to Nuremberg, along a line measuring 6.04 km in length.

You will find out, step by step, how to put together a model featuring all the details of the original carriage. We invite you to let yourself get carried away and set up spaces for creative leisure in which you can enjoy this marvellous coach model.
