The streetcar named Desire is real — and it's still running (1923)

No. 922 is a 900-series streetcar built by Perley Thomas in 1923 for New Orleans: the olive-green fleet that worked the Desire line through the French Quarter, the line Tennessee Williams made immortal in 1947 and Elia Kazan brought to the screen four years later with Vivien Leigh and Marlon Brando. The line died in 1948; the cars did not. No. 922 is still in service on St. Charles Avenue — the oldest continuously operating streetcar line in the world.
