The tugboat that put to sea when everyone else was coming home (1960s)

The Ulises does not reproduce a specific vessel: it is an Occre design faithful to the deep-sea tugs of the 1960s, when world trade filled the oceans and someone had to go out to ships in trouble. A steel hull, wood in the fine spaces, and the power to tow vessels far larger than herself. The name is no accident: Ulysses, the sailor who always found the way home. That was the trade — bringing ships back.

The Ulises model was an ocean-going tug. During the sixties, maritime traffic was very intense, the coming and going of goods crossing seas and oceans around the world was constant.

This activity was not without its risks; therefore the work of ocean-going tugs was vitally important, helping all those vessels that suffered mishaps. At that time, metal was the basic material used to construct the boats, combined with a certain percentage of wood. Builders took advantage of the strength of steel for the hull and the comfort of wood for the crew areas, which meant that they turned out models of singular beauty despite the fact that the boats were designed as working boats.

Wood: Fine hardwoods of several species, chosen according to what each part has to do: structure, hull planking, deck and visible finishes. Laser-cut sheets for a precise fit.
Photo-etched brass: Photochemically etched brass parts for the finest detail, impossible to reproduce in wood.
Zamak castings: Detail parts such as cannons, anchors and deck fittings, cast in zamak for a solid, realistic finish.
Cotton: Sewn sails and threads of different thicknesses for the standing and running rigging.
