History of the Endurance ship
In the race to reach the South Pole, three legendary names stood out: Ernest Shackleton, Robert Falcon Scott, and Roald Amundsen.
The Endurance was launched on December 17, 1912, under the name "Polaris". Originally rigged as a frigate, it was later refitted as a three-masted brigantine. In 1914, it joined the famous "Imperial Transantarctic Expedition" led by Sir Ernest Shackleton in an attempt to cross the Antarctic continent.
After the shipwreck on August 19, 1915, the crew was trapped in the ice of the Weddell Sea. For 522 days, they endured winds of up to 300 km/h (186 mph) and temperatures as low as -40°C (-40°F).
Shackleton, aboard the boat "James Caird" with a handful of men, undertook one of the most heroic journeys in maritime history. Together with his entire crew, he achieved the greatest triumph of all: survival.
The expedition remains a legendary tale of resilience, courage, and human spirit.
