History of the Pirate Ship – The Buccaneer
“... for my God is freedom; my law, strength and the wind; my only homeland, the sea.”
"Song of the Pirate" – José de Espronceda (Spanish poet, 1808–1842)
Pirates and Buccaneers
During the 17th and 18th centuries, the rise and fall of piracy gave birth to countless legends of hidden treasures and daring exploits. Pirates and buccaneers became immortalised as the kings of the sea.
They roamed the Caribbean, the vital trade route between the Americas and Europe. While pirates attacked merchant ships and raided coastal towns to amass their fortunes, buccaneers turned to smuggling, seizing small trading vessels, and dealing in the slave trade.
The Buccaneer model ship represents one of the vessels that may have sailed these turbulent waters, carrying out such daring raids. With this model ship kit, you can relive one of the most fascinating and shadowy chapters of maritime history, while enjoying the timeless craft of model ship modelling.
