In November 1820, the sinking of the whaling ship Essex, along with the survival of part of her crew, thrilled and moved the US public. The year before she had set sail from Nantucket on a new whaling campaign that was scheduled to last two and a half years, sailing the South Pacific.
Captained by George Pollard, the whaling ship Essex was attacked by a large sperm whale, which rammed the ship on various occasions, finally sinking her, some 2,000 nautical miles from the South American coast. Of the 21 crew members only 8 survived.
Herman Melville was inspired by this tragedy to write Moby Dick, one of the masterpieces of world literature. The title of the book is taken from the name given to an actual whale, "Mocha Dick", sighted in the 19th century close to Mocha Island, off the central coast of Chile.

Ich habe noch nicht mit der Essex angefangen, da ich noch mit der Gorch Fock von OcCre beschäftigt bin. Der Bausatz hat die gleiche Qualität wie man sie von OcCre erwartet und kennt. Immer wieder gerne.

Modello suggestivo e divertente. Fosse stato un po' più grande sarebbe stato perfetto perché ho qualche problema a vedere oggetti piccoli. Un saluto a tutti.

I am enjoying the model; however, I did not receive near enough 0.5 mm brown thread. I have had to order more brown thread twice. Instructions and videos are very good.

I bought this kit after reading “In the Heart of the Sea,” the true story of the Essex whaling vessel which was sunk by a Sperm Whale. Another fantastic kit by OcCre. Two aspects I love about their kits are the quality of not just the wood products, but the cast parts and metal. Very little flash to remove and nice details. The other are the instructions. Nice, color photos to show how to assemble as well as YouTube videos to help along the way. I will definitely be buying more kits!

Aunque esté considerado de nivel medio, no me ha parecido sencilla la construcción de este modelo. He disfrutado muchísimo.
Hoi, Mijn naam is Hans, kom uit Nederland. Ik heb het bouwen van de Whaler Essex zojuist afgerond en heb er erg veel plezier aan beleeft. Het was mijn 5e schip van Occre dat ik gebouwd heb. Het was een uitdagend schip om te bouwen. De instructies en de U-tube filmpjes waren echter zeer duidelijk zoals ook de life time garantie op onderdelen. Ik ben nu bezig met de Bounty. Groetjes Hans.

I'm not far enough along with the Essex to share a photo, but I completed the HMS Beagle earlier this year and included a photo of that one. If the Essex is anywhere near the quality the the Beagle model, it will be awesome. Your models are truly near exact replicas of the real thing. Videos are very helpful and I had very few issues in construction of the Beagle. I'll come back with more when I complete the Essex.

this is the 3rd occre kit that I have done, the others were the aurora and titanic. The Essex is still in its early stages. Your kits are good quality, and directions are mostly well done, I like the fact that if the printed directions are a little ambiguous you can go to the video for clarifications. Wish list, would like to see more of the great liners and various ocean freighters. regards Doug Inniss

Terzo modello OCCRE completato e come sempre ottima qualità. Solo un appunto, il numero di pulegge presenti nel kit non era sufficiente per completare il modello e ho dovuto usare avanzi di modelli precedenti. Per il resto un modello impegnativo e di grande effetto.
Es la cuarta maqueta de barcos que hago, las dos últimas son de Ocre, mi habilitad ha mejorado con cada una de ellas, lo mas útil segun mi experiencia son las instrucciones apoyadas por multitud de videos, pienso seguir , y con modelos mas sofisticados

This is a fantastic kit. Even if you are new to wooden ship building, Occre makes it less overwhelming and less complicated. The instruction book and the companion YouTube video series take all the heavy guesswork out of it. If you make an error, Occre will help you with replacement wood. When they say it is guaranteed, they mean it.
Muy buenos días y feliz año nuevo. La maqueta Essex es mi primero barco para hacer. Me encantan los materiales, el sortido de las maderas, la calidad y los instructiones estan facil de entender, especialmente con los pelis de paso a paso en youtube. Es un gran reto para mi pero me gusta un monoton. Muchas gracias OcCre por un servicio exceptional.

Overall, very happy.
Model is fine. Instructions are good except when they omit a line or step. I would suggest that you make sire that people who order from you to the US understand that they are now subject to Fedex import duty charges. This did not happen with my last model (the Beagle), but I imagine with a kit as large as your new limited edition surprise charges appearing weeks after arrival of the kit may be unsettling
