The flagship of Franklin's lost expedition (1845)

HMS Erebus was launched in Wales in 1826 as a bomb vessel. Strengthened for the ice, she charted Antarctica alongside HMS Terror on the Ross expedition (1839-1843). In 1845 she sailed as Sir John Franklin's flagship in search of the Northwest Passage, with 129 men aboard the two ships. None came back. The wreck, extraordinarily well preserved, was found in 2014 exactly where Inuit oral tradition had always said it was.

The HMS Erebus was a ship of the Franklin Expedition to the Arctic, led by Sir John Franklin in 1845. It was one of the most technologically advanced ships of its time, equipped with steam engines and designed to withstand the harsh conditions of the Arctic. Essential complements for the HMS Erebus model ship:

Erebus and Terror of Franklin's lost expedition

The HMS Erebus and HMS Terror were two ships that were part of Sir John Franklin's Lost Expedition to the Arctic in 1845. Both ships were technologically advanced for their time and were equipped with steam engines to navigate the Arctic waters. The expedition sought to find the Northwest Passage but became trapped in the ice and never returned. After several years without news of the ships, a search was initiated that led to their discovery in 2014 and 2016. Although remains of the expedition were found, the exact cause of its failure was never determined, leading to many theories and speculations. The Erebus and Terror are remembered as symbols of Arctic exploration and the bravery of the explorers who ventured into an unknown and dangerous territory.
