History of the HMS Victory
The HMS Victory is a legendary British ship of the line, world-renowned for its role as Admiral Horatio Nelson’s flagship during the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. At the time, it was the largest vessel in the British Royal Navy.
Today, the Victory is preserved in dry dock at the historic port of Portsmouth, Hampshire, in southern England. It continues to serve as the flagship of the Second Sea Lord—a ceremonial distinction that underlines its continued importance within the Royal Navy.
Did you know you can visit the actual HMS Victory at the National Museum of the Royal Navy in Portsmouth? Step aboard and explore the majestic Great Cabin where battle plans were drawn, or walk the lower gun deck and imagine life under the command of Vice Admiral Lord Nelson. Just two hours south of London, it’s a must-visit for ship modelers and naval history enthusiasts alike.
