The BR 18.4 was designed and built at the J. A. Maffei workshops in Munich, with the first one being delivered on 16th July 1908.
The axle layout is of the "Pacific" type with large diameter wheels. At that time it was the biggest engine ever to be built by this manufacturer and is still considered "the most beautiful locomotive of the German railways".
The S 3/6 performed excellently on long distance routes, in 1951 pulling a train of 150 tonnes over a distance of 180 kilometres, from Hamburg to Munich, only stopping to top up on water. The “S” is for "Schnellzuglocomotiven" (long-distance train) and 3/6 is the number of drive axles compared with total axles.
These locomotives were mainly used on long-distance lines in Bavaria, although they also pulled such famous trains as the Orient Express and Rheingold, the Ostend-Vienna Express or the Paris-Carlsbad-Prague Express. Multiple variations were applied throughout this locomotive’s history, mainly in terms of the cab, boiler and engine mechanisms.

Aunque estoy al principio del montaje, estoy satisfecho con las fotos de las instrucciones y como va quedando el trabajo, pero creo sería conveniente detallasen la numeración de las piezas metálicas en IP (como las piezas de madera). Por todo lo demás correcto. Cuando lo termine les enviaré una foto con el resultado final.Un saludo.
Monté la J.A. Maffei entre abril del 2015 y julio del 2017. Fueron 27 meses de intenso trabajo, compartido con mis otras obligaciones, por supuesto, y quedé muy satisfecho con el resultado. Modelo exigente pero muy noble, en el que utilicé pintura en spray con lacado final, con excelente acabado. Hoy luce espléndida en las vitrinas formando un conjunto con el coche dormitorio de AMATI en su misma escala.
He disfrutado mucho haciendo esta locomotora. Han sido muchas horas de satisfacción. Creo que se podría mejorar un poco las instrucciones, sobre todo en lo referente a fotografías.

This was a great model to build and was quite demanding as most of the difficult parts were in metal. Great follow-up service for spare parts as well. This was my 2nd Occre model and I am now starting on my third. Occre is the best modelling company I have come across.

Excellent quality and really well-detailed model. It was really a nice challenge, I enjoyed every minute of it while I was building it.
Overall is a very satisfying model and I enjoyed a lot building it! There are a few things that can make it even better. Not all the metal parts are listed and they don't always fit together well. The instructions are very accurate but where the color is black is very difficult to understand what goes where. Anyway the result is very nice and enjoyable!
This is the 4th Occre model i have worked with. Previously, I have built the Milano Tram, HMS Beagle and the amazing HMS Victory. Overall the resulting model is brilliant. However, there are some points I would make which might make it easier to build; 1. Much of the underbody and traction areas are painted black. This makes identifying specific build instructions very difficult as the black areas in the pictures hide the differing sections. In some of the pictures I could only guess as to the required build. 2. There are very many metal structures in this build. In previous kits EVERY item of the build is listed in a parts folder. Here NOT SO. Again this made identification of the many varied parts more difficult than it needed to be. 3. HATED the many end to end metal gluings required. Cant recall so many glued fingers and thumbs before!!! The end result justified the build queries and the Locomotive is an object of pride now. Best regards David Waters

I'm nearly finished the Prinz Eugen. Really looking forward to trying something different to a ship. I've built the Albatross, Endeavour, paddle steamer, Bounty, Titanic and panart Victory. Due to lack of space to display more models I've decided to build a train as that's my other hobby.

La locomotora es preciosa, en los modelos de Occre se esta seguro que los detalles que aparecen en la fotografía, los vas a encontrar en las piezas que son parte del kit, están perfectamente acabadas y las maderas debidamente cortadas y bien canteadas. Estoy actualmente construyendo el vagón de cola para luego iniciar con la locomotora y tener así el tren completo.

Les peces són correctes com es mostra a la foto adjuntaal email que li hem enviat. La peça de metall sʻajusta perfectament a la corba de la caldera. És possible que durant el folrat de la caldera amb les xapes, no li hagin quedat exactament ajustades, o també és possible que hagi rebut una peça defectuosa. A la imatge que envieu no s'aprecia si heu llimat els caps de les puntes de la zona on es col·loca la peça de metall, és important que les rebaixeu o elimineu perquè s'adapti correctament. També pot escatar la base de la peça de metall perquè s'adapti a la forma de la caldera. The boiler en cabine has a gap of 7mm. Do not fit allthough all is build as shocking in the manual. Not ok. In the mentale I have solved the problemen by shorten de supports.

j'ai commencer le montage par la chaudiére -et en meme temps repéré les toutes petites piéces en métal-effectivement il en manque quelques une- ce qui m'empeche de terminé le montage de la chaudière dommage que les piéces ne soit pas référencé dommage que les images ne soit pas suffisamment claires- c'est pas facile pour le montage de certaine toute petite piéce
